Growth Charts of Body Mass Index (BMI) With Quantile Regression
نویسنده
چکیده
Growth charts of body mass index (BMI) are constructed from the recent four-year national crosssectional survey data (1999−2002) using parametric quantile regression methods, which are implemented with a newly developed SAS procedure (http://www.sas.com/statistics) and SAS macros.

Discussion: Conditional Growth Charts
First, I would like to congratulate the authors for an interesting application of their semiparametric quantile regression model to longitudinal human growth data. On an earlier occasion, I had an opportunity to collaborate with the authors on applying this method for the purpose of constructing semilongitudinal growth charts for height and for body mass index. As my background is in medicine r...
متن کاملGenetic Markers of Obesity Risk: Stronger Associations with Body Composition in Overweight Compared to Normal-Weight Children
BACKGROUND Genetic factors are important determinants of overweight. We examined whether there are differential effect sizes depending on children's body composition. METHODS We analysed data of n = 4,837 children recorded in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), applying quantile regression with sex- and age-specific standard deviation scores (SDS) of body mass index ...
متن کاملUse of Quantile Regression in Determining Factors Associated with BMI Among Vulnerable Adolescents in Rivers State, Nigeria
Body Mass Index has been investigated using the traditional regression methods which may not provide a complete picture of the effects of the independent variables when the outcome is continuous and skewed. Information on the nutritional status of vulnerable adolescents in Nigeria is scanty thereby hindering appropriate intervention by policy decision-makers. We investigated the nutritional sta...
متن کاملHow important are determinants of obesity measured at the individual level for explaining geographic variation in body mass index distributions? Observational evidence from Canada using Quantile Regression and Blinder-Oaxaca Decomposition.
BACKGROUND Obesity prevalence varies between geographic regions in Canada. The reasons for this variation are unclear but most likely implicate both individual-level and population-level factors. The objective of this study was to examine whether equalising correlates of body mass index (BMI) across these geographic regions could be reasonably expected to reduce differences in BMI distributions...
متن کاملHeight, weight, body mass index and pubertal development references for children of Moroccan origin in The Netherlands.
AIM To provide growth and sexual maturation reference data for Moroccan children living in The Netherlands and to compare them with the reference data of children of Dutch origin. METHODS Cross-sectional growth and demographic data were collected from 2880 children of Moroccan origin and 14,500 children of Dutch origin living in The Netherlands in the age range 0-20 y. Growth references for l...
